The 700 Nm value and fluid name are family-level references from the original Excel file. The BMW F36 manufacturer sheet verifies the ratios; it gives no separate transmission torque limit or fluid approval.

The fluid name from Excel is not a manufacturer approval. Select fluid using the full transmission identifier and current ZF/BMW requirements. “Lifetime” alone is not a fluid specification.

The BMW code reference GA8HP70Z also appears in the F36 research package. The complete identification plate and BMW/OE part number are needed to identify the exact subvariant.
The 8HP70 and 8HP70X variants are handled separately. The 258 and 286 PS research records do not by themselves establish interchangeability.
Record the full marking on the transmission housing. ZF’s guide shows both plate and stamped identification variants.
- Type designation
- The exact type shown on the plate, including every suffix.
- Full ZF catalogue number
- Catalog Number / bill-of-materials number. The full number is required to identify parts.
- Serial number
- Serial Number. Identifies the individual unit; not the same as the transmission family code.
- BMW / OE markings
- Manufacturer part numbers and other codes on the plate. Available fields vary by version.
The prefix is not a complete order number and does not by itself confirm compatibility of the specific version.
Label colour, casting marks and a suffix alone are insufficient for full identification. We do not use Excel’s general “X and Z = all-wheel drive” statement to identify the drivetrain.
