Reading the key with manufacturer technology

We begin every service by reading the key data. We display the data read using the manufacturer key reader in the BMW AOS system so vehicle identification and service preparation are based on the current information available.

The data also enters BMW’s central system. We consider the key data timestamp, which shows when the vehicle’s recorded condition was captured.

Vehicle identification in BMW’s system

From BMW data to the SIL vehicle record

We transfer the vehicle data read and available in BMW’s system into SIL, Six-In-Line Kft.’s own business management system. We update the mileage, CBS maintenance data and available software integration level.

CBS, or Condition Based Service, indicates maintenance needs according to vehicle condition and use. Current servicing tasks can therefore also be tracked in the workshop’s own records.

We also check current manufacturer campaigns

After identifying the vehicle, we check BMW’s system for open technical campaigns and recalls. For the E60 shown, the system flagged a manufacturer inspection campaign relating to the positive battery cable. We inform the customer and coordinate the next steps according to BMW’s requirements.

BMW AOS: manufacturer resources for our work

Our company has actively used BMW’s service system for independent workshops for 10 years. What does that mean in practice?

Work authorisation and five arrival photos

We prepare a work authorisation recording the requested tasks, the vehicle’s reception details and the agreed budget. The customer can see exactly what the workshop has been asked to do.

Documenting the condition on arrival

Five photographs record visible damage and cosmetic issues at reception. They remain available for later checks, help prevent misunderstandings and protect both the customer and the workshop.

Work agreed in advance

The work authorisation includes the symptoms, the ordered work and the circumstances of reception. Work exceeding the approved scope requires separate customer approval.

Work order, time tracking and diagnostics

The work authorisation becomes a SIL work order. We start tracking labour time, then retrieve diagnostic data. The inspections carried out and time spent are linked to the same service event.

We begin the requested maintenance after reading diagnostic data. We inform the customer of any findings and agree any additional repairs before proceeding.

The work order and requested inspection

Recorded materials, professional maintenance

We issue the required materials from stock and add them to the work order. Parts, part numbers and quantities are linked to the specific vehicle and work carried out.

Genuine BMW engine oil. Genuine BMW, MAHLE or MANN-FILTER filters.

Six-In-Line Kft. exclusively uses genuine BMW engine oiland genuine BMW, MAHLE or MANN-FILTER filters. Oil approval and viscosity are always selected according to the engine’s requirements; the oil shown is an example from one particular service.

Why do we choose this oil and change interval?

Our general workshop recommendation is an oil change every 12,000–15,000 kilometres, considering usage conditions and manufacturer requirements.

Learn more

We check the completed maintenance after the requested work. For an oil change, this includes checking oil level, leaks and operation, and resetting the relevant CBS service value.

Entry in BMW’s service history

Once the physical work is finished, we record the maintenance in BMW’s electronic service history. The entry goes into BMW’s central system ; a maintenance certificate is issued for the work.

With our BMW AOS access, we maintain digital service records for supported BMW models, including new cars. Our customers include a BMW maintained by our workshop since new while preserving its manufacturer warranty. This relies on following the vehicle’s manufacturer maintenance requirements and documenting the work properly.

Other repairs also leave a record

For other repairs, we make an entry in Repair History, the repair history, identifying the genuine parts used.

Labour time closed, itemised invoice

We close the recorded labour time and create a Six-In-Line-branded invoice in SIL. It clearly lists the materials, part numbers and labour charges, linked to the vehicle and work order.

The invoice is also sent automatically to the customer’s email address, so it can be stored and retrieved electronically.

The images and documents are anonymised examples of a particular service. The items and amounts shown relate to that job and are not a general price list.

The car is ready for handover. Its history is preserved.

At the end of the process, the car is ready for handover and the service data is added to SIL’s vehicle history.

The work authorisation, work order, arrival photos, diagnostic data, materials used, labour time and invoice remain linked to the vehicle. The workshop can retrieve them later, so the history is available at the next service too.
